Idemitsu Honda India Racing Team scores 9 points in the opening round of 2023 Asia Road Racing Championship in Thailand

In the first race of the AP 250 class, Kavin demonstrated consistent performance throughout the 8 laps, crossing the finish line in 14th place and earning 2 points for the team. Mohsin completed the race in the 17th position.

Moving on to the second race of the AP 250 class, Mohsin displayed consistent riding until a crash on the final lap. Unfortunately, Kavin had to retire early due to mechanical issues with his machine.

Taking place at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on May 15, 2023, the IDEMITSU Honda Racing India team concluded the intense Round 2 of the 2023 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship with a total of 2 points. The scorching weather conditions and fierce competition made the Asia Production 250cc (AP250cc) race even more demanding.

In the first race, Kavin, the lone rider representing India, showcased a consistent performance. Starting from 16th position, the talented 17-year-old rider struggled to advance until the 5th lap. However, by the 6th lap, he successfully overtook another rider. With composure and a steady pace, the young rider from Chennai secured 14th place, just on the cusp of earning points, as several riders ahead made errors. His impressive lap time of 2:27.647 granted him and the team 2 valuable points in the championship standings.

Following his 16th place qualification and 14th place finish in the previous race, Kavin was eager to make progress in the second race. However, his aspirations were cut short as his bike encountered technical difficulties in the second lap, forcing him to retire to the pits.

With the conclusion of Round 2 at the Sepang International Circuit, Kavin has accumulated 2 points, solidifying his position within the top 15 in the championship standings.

On the other hand, Kavin's teammate, Mohsin Paramban from Mallapuram, displayed a determined performance in the first AP250cc race, finishing in 17th place—three positions higher than his qualifying position of 20th. Despite a strong start that propelled the 20-year-old rider to 18th place by the second lap of the second race, an overtaking maneuver by another rider during the third lap pushed him down to 19th place. Mohsin maintained his position until the last lap, where he unfortunately crashed while attempting to chase down a rider ahead. Regrettably, the rookie rider was unable to score any points during the Sepang round.

With the conclusion of Round 2, the IDEMITSU Honda Racing India team has secured an additional two valuable points, elevating their total tally to 11 points thus far in the 2023 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship.
